Kevin Walsh – Second Place Winner

In Kevin Walsh’s prizewinning script JOSEFINA, a man’s search for his vanished lover leads him into a strange new life.

As our second place winner, Kevin receives $1,500 and reduced tuition to attend this year’s feature retreat.

Kevin Walsh grew up with movie-going parents and saw many inappropriate and entirely wonderful movies at a tender age, which have shaped his understanding of not just movies, but of life, ever since. He graduated from the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting in 2023 with the near certainty that he had failed to learn everything his instructors had kindly tried to teach him. He is now cautiously reassessing parts of that assumption. He was a finalist for the 2023 David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award, and is a semifinalist (for JOSEFINA) for the 2024 Academy Nicholl Fellowships. He is inspired to write the stories of people he encounters in his daily life, who undertake the terrifying, maddening, and exhilarating task of admitting defeat, shedding their old self, and finding a new one.

Kristen Angonese – Third Place Winner

In Kristen Angonese’s prizewinning script TRIVIAL PURSUITS, desperate to earn a Trivia Bowl scholarship to Harvard, a teen captain will stop at nothing to lead her ragtag team to victory.

As our third place winner, Kristen receives $1,000 and reduced tuition to attend this year’s feature retreat.

Kristen Angonese is a disabled, LGBTQ+ writer from a small town in Michigan who has lived several lives, ranging from engineering design for Swiffer/Mr. Clean to market research for the video game FarmVille. (Yes, that FarmVille.) Realizing corporate life was killing her, she pivoted into screenwriting, and the rest is history. She writes emotionally grounded stories with a genre or absurdist wrapper. These narratives center around women learning to embrace their best selves with the support of a found family.

Kristen is a 2024 Circle Management and Production and Anarchists United Writers Discovery Fellow. Her feature script, TRIVIAL PURSUITS, won 3rd Place in CineStory’s Feature Contest Fellowship. She also was a Fox Entertainment Writers Incubator Finalist in Comedy and Animation and a Humanitas Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Semi-Finalist.
