Mission Statement
CineStory is a non-profit educational association dedicated to providing new screenwriters with opportunities to work with committed industry professionals on a personal basis in order to raise the level of their craft and the marketability of their projects.
This revised mission is a more stream-lined focus for CineStory -- of providing a location for new and emerging screenwriters to work safely with film pros who themselves have also joined the CineStory Community.
CineStory has found a niche it believes can make the biggest difference in developing your own screenwriting art.
Ever since CineStory's move to Idyllwild, this arts town in the mountains, 2-1/2 hours from Los Angeles, it has been conducting seminars, retreats and camps. We make a difference to writers in a serious and fundamental way by gathering them together with working pros in a safe haven under a wooded canopy.
From small conferences (Script Sessions, 1995-2000) with 100 attendees and 20 pros to the continuing CineStory Retreats (2000-present, 18 attendees and 10 pros), from CineStory Conservatory classes, consulting, and online courses to the competitive CineStory Screenwriting Awards (1996 and continuing this year), CineStory has always tried to design new and powerful ways for more writers to develop their craft and their projects in a concentrated manner within the heart of the industry but away from the fastest-track Hollywood marketplace itself.
So we are formulating the CineStory Community and Retreat Center to take advantage of opportunities that new writers rarely have. Many of our activities will revolve around a chance to get away and write, to climb the mountain and work in peace and/or partner with mentors who will deal directly with your projects and the progression of your talents.
The connections you can make with other writers at your level as well as the relationships you may develop with our mentors will provide you with a community that can keep you on track down the path toward a professional life in film creating and filmmaking.
CineStory has long believed it is the writer's creative voice and vision that is the most valuable but most overlooked contribution to films of the American cinema.
CineStory strives to encourage the highest levels of screenwriting by:
- instilling the basic principles of cinematic storytelling
- fostering the individual writer's authentic vision and independent voice
- providing deserving writers with alternative access to the screen
- creating and maintaining an active community of promising writers and supportive, discerning film professionals
We are a family of volunteers and devoted workers, all writers, many of whom have supported CineStory since it began in 1995.
We are planning new offices, new events and a revitalization of some of the favorite CineStory activities, such as the First Read Screenplay Readings and the Reader's Training Course.
Please check back with us often for fresh announcements of upcoming CineStory stuff!
